So they went (their way) until when they embarked in the boat he made a hole in it. (Musa) said: Have you made a hole in it to drown its inmates? Certainly you have done a grievous thing. 71 He (Khidr) said: "Did I not tell you, that you would not be able to have patience with me?" 72 Moses said: "Do not take me to task at my forgetfulness, and do not be hard on me." 73 So they set out again; until when they met a boy, the chosen bondman slew him – Moosa said, “Did you slay an innocent soul not in retribution for another? You have indeed done an extremely evil thing.” 74 ۞ He replied: "Did I not tell thee that thou wilt never be able to have patience with me?" 75 Moses said: "Keep me no more in your company if I question you concerning anything after this. You will then be fully justified." 76 So they went on until they came to a town. They asked its people for food, but were refused hospitality. They found a wall in the town which was about to fall down. His companion buttressed it and Moses said, "Had you wished, you could have demanded payment for your labours." 77 He said: This shall be separation between me and you; now I will inform you of the significance of that with which you could not have patience. 78 As for the ship, it belonged to poor people working on the river, and I wished to mar it, for there was a king behind them who is taking every ship by force. 79 "As for the youth, his parents were people of Faith, and we feared that he would grieve them by obstinate rebellion and ingratitude (to Allah and man). 80 So we intended that their Lord should substitute for them one better than him in purity and nearer to mercy. 81 "And as for the wall, it belonged to two orphan boys in the town; and there was under it a treasure belonging to them; and their father was a righteous man, and your Lord intended that they should attain their age of full strength and take out their treasure as a mercy from your Lord. And I did it not of my own accord. That is the interpretation of those (things) over which you could not hold patience." 82
