The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Rise up and warn! 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 And your clothing purify 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 Then looked he, 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
