The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ What do they quarrel about? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 on which they [so utterly] disagree. 3 Nay, but they will come to know! 4 Verily, verily they shall soon (come to) know! 5 Have We not made the earth an even expanse? 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 Have We not created you in pairs, 8 and We appointed your sleep for a rest; 9 And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness), 10 and made the day for earning a livelihood. 11 and built above you seven strong firmaments, 12 and placed in them a blazing lamp 13 And We send down from the clouds water pouring forth abundantly, 14 That We may bring forth thereby grain and vegetation 15 and gardens dense with foliage? 16 Surely the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 and the heaven shall be opened, and become gates, 19 And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage. 20 Verily the Hell is an ambuscade: 21 A home for the rebellious. 22 They will dwell therein for ages. 23 They will not feel cold nor taste any drink 24 Except scalding water and [foul] purulence - 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 Verily they were wont not to look for a reckoning. 27 and persistently rejected Our revelations. 28 And We have kept recorded everything in a Book, accounted for. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
