The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By those that pluck out vehemently 1 and those that blow gently, 2 By the angels who glide swimmingly, 3 And who quickly present themselves. 4 and thus they fulfil the [Creator's] behest! 5 Upon the day when the first blast shivers 6 and will be followed by another quaking. 7 hearts upon that day shall be athrob 8 Eyes be lowered in submission. 9 They say: Shall we indeed be restored to (our) first state? 10 After having turned to carious bones?" 11 They said: That then would be a return occasioning loss. 12 But it will be only a single blow, 13 And suddenly they will be [alert] upon the earth's surface. 14 Has not there come to you the story of Musa? 15 when his Lord called him in the holy valley of Tuwa, 16 Saying: go thou unto Fir'awn; verily he hath waxen exorbitant. 17 and say [unto him,] 'Art thou desirous of attaining to purity? 18 Then I will guide you to your Lord that you may come to fear Him.'" 19 And thereupon he [went to Pharaoh and] made him aware of the great wonder [of God's grace]. 20 But [Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] belied and disobeyed; 21 Then he turned his back, striving hard (against Allah). 22 and gathered his people and declared: 23 “I am the supreme lord of you all.” 24 So Allah seized him (and made him) an example for the after (life) and for the former. 25 Surely there is a great lesson in it for whoever would fear (Allah). 26
