The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WHEN THE SKY is cleft asunder, 1 in obedience to the commands of their Lord which are incumbent on them, 2 And when the earth is stretched forth, 3 And casts forth what is in it and becomes empty, 4 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 5 O thou man! Verily thou art ever toiling on towards thy Lord- painfully toiling,- but thou shalt meet Him. 6 Whoever is given the Record in his right hand 7 shall have an easy reckoning 8 And will return unto his folk in joy. 9 But whosoever is given his Record behind his back, 10 he will in time pray for utter destruction: 11 But will be roasted in the fire. 12 Truly, did he go about among his people, rejoicing! 13 Truly, did he think that he would not have to return (to Us)! 14 But he will indeed! His Lord was ever watching him. 15 I swear by the afterglow of sunset, 16 And the night and that which it drives on, 17 And by oath of the moon when it is full. 18 Surely ye shall ride layer upon layer. 19 What is the matter with them? Why do they not believe? 20 And when the Qur'an is read to them, they fall not prostrate, ۩ 21 Yea those who disbelieve belie. 22 But God knows what they harbour in their breasts. 23 Therefore give to them glad tidings of a painful punishment, 24 Except those who believe and do good; for them is a reward that shall never be cut off. 25
