The tribe of Ad rejected the Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 124 I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 125 so fear you God, and obey you me. 126 And I do not ask you any reward for it; surely my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds 127 What, do you build on every prominence a sign, sporting, 128 And you make strong fortresses that perhaps you may 129 And will you [always,] whenever you lay hand [on others,] lay hand [on them] cruelly, without any restraint? 130 So fear you God, and obey you me; 131 and [thus] be conscious of Him who has [so] amply provided you with all [the good] that you might think of 132 “He aided you with cattle and sons.” 133 “And with gardens and water-springs.” 134 Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a dreadful Day' 135 They said: "It is the same to us whether you preach or be not of those who preach. 136 this is nothing but a habit of the ancients: 137 and we shall not be punished." 138 And so they gave him the lie: and thereupon We destroyed them. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 139 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 140
