The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Read in the name of your Lord Who created. 1 created man from a clot of congealed blood. 2 Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 who taught by the Pen, 4 Has taught man that which he knew not. 5 Despite this, the human being still tends to rebel 6 In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient. 7 Indeed towards your Lord only is the return. 8 Seest thou one who forbids- 9 A servant when he prays? 10 Did you consider: what if he is on the Right Way, 11 and enjoins piety? 12 What is your opinion – if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! 13 Knows he not that Allah does see (what he does)? 14 Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,- 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 Then, let him call his assembly, 17 We shall call on the guards of Hell. 18 No! Do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near [to Allah]. ۩ 19
