And the chiefs of his people, who disbelieved and denied the Meeting in the Hereafter, and on whom We had bestowed the good things of this life, said: "He is no more than a man like yourselves: he eats of that of which ye eat, and drinks of what ye drink. 33 And if you obey a mortal like yourselves, then most surely you will be losers: 34 Does he promise you that, after you have died and become [mere] dust and bones, you shall be brought forth [to a new life]? 35 ۞ Away, away with that you are promised! 36 There is no other life than the life of the world. We shall live here and here shall we die; and we are not going to be raised again. 37 He is only a man who has invented a lie about God, and we are not going to believe him!" 38 The Messenger prayed, "Lord, help me; they have called me a liar". 39 He replied: 'Before long, by the morning, they shall be remorseful' 40 So the shriek seized them in truth, and We made them as [plant] stubble. Then away with the wrongdoing people. 41 Then We raised after them other generations. 42 No nation will precede its time [of termination], nor will they remain [thereafter]. 43 Then We sent Our Messengers in succession. Whenever a Messenger came to his people they rejected him, calling him a liar. Thereupon, We made each people to follow the other (to its doom), reducing them to mere tales (of the past). Scourged be the people who do not believe! 44 Then We sent Musa (Moses) and his brother Harun (Aaron), with Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) and manifest authority, 45 Unto Pharaoh and his chiefs, but they scorned (them) and they were despotic folk. 46 And so they said: "Shall we believe [them] two mortals like ourselves - although their people are our slaves?" 47 So they rejected them both, and became those who were destroyed. 48 We gave the Book to Moses so that perhaps they may have guidance. 49 And We made Mary's son, and his mother, a Sign, and We gave them refuge on a lofty ground, a peaceful site with springs flowing in it. 50
