The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
The Hour of Doom is drawing near and the moon is rent asunder. 1 And if they behold a sign, they turn away and say: magic continuous 2 And they belied, and they followed their lusts; and every affair cometh to a final goal. 3 And withal, there has come unto them many a tiding that should have restrained [their arrogance]: 4 Containing consummate wisdom; yet warnings were of no avail. 5 Therefore, turn away from them. On the Day when the Caller summons them to a terrible thing, 6 Their eyes humbled, they will emerge from the graves as if they were locusts spreading, 7 These disbelievers will say, "This is a hard day". 8 ۞ The people of Noah had denied before them, and had called Our votary a liar, and said: "He is possessed," and repulsed him. 9 Noah prayed, "Lord, help me; I am defeated". 10 Then We opened the portals of heaven with water poured out. 11 and We made the earth burst forth with springs, and all this water converged to fulfil that which had been decreed. 12 And We bore him on that which was made of planks and nails 13 Moving forward under Our eyes: a requital for him who had been rejected. 14 And indeed, We have caused such [floating vessels] to remain forever a sign [of Our grace unto man]: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 15 But how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning? 16 Easy have We made the Qur'an to understand: So is there any one who will be warned? 17 (The tribe of) A'ad rejected warnings. Then how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings. 18 Verily We! We sent against them a raging wind on a day of calamity continuous. 19 Carrying men away as though they were trunks of palm-trees uprooted. 20 How terrible was Our torment and the result of (their disregard) of Our warning. 21 Now We have made the Koran easy for Remembrance. Is there any that will remember? 22
