The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn! 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 and purify your robes, 4 Pollution shun! 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 And give him vast riches, 12 and children living in his presence, 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he beheld, 21 frowned and scowled, 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 Burning the skins! 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 We have appointed none but angels to guard the Fire, and made their number only as a trial for the unbelievers, so that those to whom the Book was given are certain and those who believe increase in belief. And that those who were given the Book, and those who believe will not be in doubt. And that those in whose hearts there is a sickness, together with the unbelievers, may say: 'What did Allah intend by this as an example' As such, Allah leaves in error whom He will and He guides whomsoever He will. None knows the hosts of your Lord except He. This is no more than a Reminder to humans. 31
