He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 For him who does not care, 5 to a rich man, 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 and in awe of God 9 From him you are distracted. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
