Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming? 1 Some faces that Day shall be downcast with fear, 2 Labouring, wearied out, 3 roasting at a scorching Fire 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 They shall have no food but of thorns, 6 Which will neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 Faces on that day jocund, 8 and pleased with the result of their deeds in the past. 9 In a Garden on high, 10 Where they hear no idle speech, 11 In it is a flowing spring. 12 [and] there will be thrones [of happiness] raised high, 13 and goblets set at hand, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 and carpets spread out. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And the sky: how it was raised high? 18 And at the mountains, how firmly they are reared? 19 And the earth – how it has been spread out? 20 Therefore advise; indeed you are a proclaimer of advice. (The Holy Prophet is a Remembrance from Allah.) 21 and are not invested with the authority to compel them. 22 Except whoever turns away and disbelieves – 23 will be punished by God with the greatest punishment. 24 Surely to Us is their turning back, 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
