Thamud (people) belied the Messenger. 141 when their brother Salih said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 142 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust. 143 so fear you God, and obey you me.' 144 And I do not ask you any reward for it; my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds: 145 Shall ye be left secure in that which is here before us. 146 amidst [these] gardens and springs 147 farms, and palm-trees in thick groves, 148 Will you still hew your dwellings in the mountains? 149 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 150 Do not follow those who are extravagant, 151 those who spread corruption in the land instead of putting things right." 152 They replied: 'Surely, you are one of those bewitched. 153 You are a mere mortal like us. Show us a miracle if you are telling the Truth". 154 He said: yonder is a she-camel; to her a drink, and to you a drink, each on a day known. 155 And do not touch her with evil, lest the punishment of a grievous day should overtake you. 156 So they hamstrung her, and in the morning could only regret. 157 For they were seized by the torment. Verily there was a sign in this, but most of them did not believe. 158 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 159
