۞ "Bring ye up", it shall be said, "The wrong-doers and their wives, and the things they worshipped- 22 "Instead of Allah, and lead them on to the way of flaming Fire (Hell); 23 And stop them; verily they are to be questioned: 24 "What is the matter with you? Why do you not help one another (as you used to do in the world)?" 25 Nay, but on that Day they would willingly surrender [to God]; 26 and advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 27 They said, “It is you who used to come to us from our right, in order to sway.” 28 They will reply: "Nay, ye yourselves had no Faith! 29 Moreover, we had no power at all over you: nay, you were people filled with overweening arrogance! 30 The statement of Our Lord is realized against us, and we are tasting it, 31 Thus we misled you. Lo! we were (ourselves) astray. 32 On that Day they will all share the punishment: 33 that is how We deal with evil-doers. 34 For when it was said unto them, There is no Allah save Allah, they were scornful 35 and replied, "Shall we then give up our deities at the bidding of a mad poet?" 36 "Surely, he has brought the truth, confirming those who were sent before; 37 Ye shall indeed taste of the Grievous Penalty;- 38 You will only be recompensed according to your deeds.” 39 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 40 for them awaits a known provision, 41 Fruits! And they shall be honoured. 42 In Gardens of peace. 43 Facing each other on Thrones (of Dignity): 44 They will be served with a cup full of crystal clear wine, 45 white, a delight to the drinkers, 46 wherein no sickness is, neither intoxication; 47 And with them will be maidens (houris) who restrain their wide glances 48 As though they were eggs hidden. 49 So one among them turns to the other, questioning. – 50 One of them will start the talk and say: "I had an intimate companion (on the earth), 51 'Do you believe in the Day of Judgment? 52 When we are dead and have become dust and bones, are we indeed going to be requited? 53 Then he will say, "Shall we look for him?" 54 Then he will look downwards, and will see him in the depths of Hell. 55 He shall say: By Allah! you had almost caused me to perish; 56 "Had it not been for the Grace of my Lord, I should certainly have been among those brought (there)! 57 Are we then not to die 58 Saving our former death, and are we not to be punished? 59 Indeed, this is the great attainment. 60 For the like of this let the workers [on earth] work. 61 Is Paradise a better accommodation or the tree of zaqqum? 62 Verily We! We have made it a temptation for the wrong-doers. 63 Verily, it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-fire, 64 and its fruits are like devils' heads. 65 and they eat of it, and of it fill their bellies, 66 And behold, above all this they will be confounded with burning despair! 67 They can only return to hell. 68 They had found their fathers astray, 69 So they (too) made haste to follow in their footsteps! 70 And verily most of the men of old went astray before them, 71 though We had sent warners among them. 72 Observe, then, what was the end of those that had been warned, 73 Save single-minded slaves of Allah. 74
