۞ We gave Abraham aforetime his rectitude -- for We knew him -- 51 When he said to his father and his people, "What are these statues to which you are devoted?" 52 They said:"We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said: Certainly you have been, (both) you and your fathers, in manifest error. 54 They exclaimed, "Have you brought the Truth or are you joking?" 55 He said, “In fact, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the One Who created them; and I am of those who testify to it.” 56 And, by Allah, I shall circumvent your idols after ye have gone away and turned your backs. 57 So he broke them to pieces, (all) except the biggest of them, that they might turn to it. 58 They said: who hath wrought this to our gods? verily he is of the wrong-doers. 59 They said: "We heard a youth talk about them. He is called Abraham." 60 They said, "Then bring him before the eyes of the people that they may testify." 61 They said, "Art thou the one that did this with our gods, O Abraham?" 62 Said he, “Rather, their chief may have done it; so question them, if they can speak.” 63 They then turned to themselves, and said: verily ye it is who are the wrong-doers. 64 Then they were utterly put to confusion saying, 'Very well indeed thou knowest these do not speak.' 65 (Abraham) said, "Do ye then worship, besides Allah, things that can neither be of any good to you nor do you harm? 66 Shame on you and on that you worship other than Allah! Have you no understanding' 67 They said, "Burn him to ashes if you want to help your gods". 68 We said: O fire, be coolness and peace for Abraham, 69 They had sought to do him harm, but We frustrated them. 70 And We rescued him and Lut towards the land which We have blessed for the entire world. 71 And We bestowed on him Isaac, and Jacob as an additional gift, and made them righteous. 72 And We made them Imams who guided (people) by Our command, and We revealed to them the doing of good and the keeping up of prayer and the giving of the alms, and Us (alone) did they serve; 73 And (as for) Lut, We gave him wisdom and knowledge, and We delivered him from the town which wrought abominations; surely they were an evil people, transgressors; 74 And We admitted him to Our Mercy, truly, he was of the righteous. 75
