(Pharaoh) said to the Chiefs around him: "This is indeed a sorcerer well-versed: 34 He wants to expel you from your land through his magic. What is your opinion?" 35 They said: Give him and his brother respite and send heralds into the cities 36 “To bring to you every expert great magician.” 37 So the magicians were gathered at a set time on a day appointed. 38 And it was said unto the people: are ye going to assemble. 39 (They said): "We may haply follow the magicians if they are victorious." 40 So when the sorcerers arrived, they said to Fir'aun (Pharaoh): "Will there surely be a reward for us if we are the winners?" 41 He said, 'Yes indeed; and you shall then be among the near-stationed.' 42 Musa said to them: Cast what you are going to cast. 43 So they threw their ropes and their staffs and said, "By the might of Pharaoh, indeed it is we who are predominant." 44 Then Musa (Moses) threw his stick, and behold, it swallowed up all the falsehoods which they showed! 45 Thereupon the magicians fell down in prostration, 46 They said: We believe in the Lord of the worlds: 47 The Lord of Moses and Aaron. 48 Said Pharaoh, 'You have believed him before I gave you leave. Why, he is the chief of you, the same that taught you sorcery; now you shall know! I shall assuredly cut off alternately your hands and feet, then I shall crucify you all together.' 49 They said: "No matter! for us, we shall but return to our Lord! 50 "Only, our desire is that our Lord will forgive us our faults, that we may become foremost among the believers!" 51
