Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha Mim 1 By the Book that makes things clear; 2 We sent it down during a Blessed Night: for We (ever) wish to warn (against Evil). 3 On that night is made distinct every precise matter - 4 [Every] matter [proceeding] from Us. Indeed, We were to send [a messenger] 5 (As) a Mercy from your Lord. Verily! He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. 6 the Lord of the heavens and the earth and of all that is between them: if you would only have sure faith. 7 There is no god other than He, who gives you life and death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of old. 8 Nay, but they [who lack inner certainty] are but dying with their doubts. 9 WAIT, THEN, for the Day when the skies shall bring forth a pall of smoke which will make obvious [the approach of the Last Hour,] 10 covering the people; this is a painful chastisement. 11 (People will then say): “Our Lord, remove this scourge from us; we shall believe.” 12 How is it possible for them to accept guidance, whereas a Noble Messenger who speaks clearly has already come to them? 13 Then they had turned away from him (Messenger Muhammad SAW) and said: "One (Muhammad SAW) taught (by a human being), a madman!" 14 [Still,] behold, We shall postpone this suffering for a little while, although you are bound to revert [to your evil ways: but] 15 However, We shall truly take Our revenge on the day when the great seizure takes place. 16 ۞ Already before them We tried the people of Pharaoh, and a noble Messenger came unto them, 17 Saying: "Restore to me the Servants of Allah: I am to you an messenger worthy of all trust; 18 And saying, “And do not rebel against Allah; I have brought a clear proof to you.” 19 "And truly, I seek refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me (or call me a sorcerer or kill me). 20 "If ye believe me not, at least keep yourselves away from me." 21 (But they were aggressive:) then he cried to his Lord: "These are indeed a people given to sin." 22 Then (his Lord commanded): Take away My slaves by night. Lo! ye will be followed, 23 Then leave the sea calm they are an army that will be drowned. 24 How many of the gardens and fountains have they left! 25 And the cornlands and the goodly sites 26 and pleasant things in which they delighted! 27 Thus it was; and We passed them on to another people. 28 The sky nor the earth cried for them, nor were they given respite. 29
