The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Read in the name of your Lord Who created. 1 Createth man from a clot. 2 Proclaim! And thy Lord is Most Bountiful,- 3 The One Who taught to write with the pen. 4 He taught the human being what he did not know. 5 No indeed; surely Man waxes insolent, 6 because he thinks himself self-sufficient: 7 Indeed towards your Lord only is the return. 8 Have you seen one who prevents 9 A servant when he prays? 10 Have you thought, if he had been on guidance 11 Or had enjoined piety, (it would have been better)? 12 What thinkest thou? If he cries lies, and turns away - 13 Did he not realise that Allah is watching? 14 Let him beware! If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock -- 15 the lying, rebellious forehead! 16 Then let him summon his council, 17 We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)! 18 Nay! (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him))! Do not obey him (Abu Jahl). Fall prostrate and draw near to Allah! ۩ 19
