Samood gave the lie to the apostles 141 Recall when their brother Salih said to them: "Have you no fear?" 142 Truly, I am a trustworthy messenger for you, 143 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 144 For this I ask of you no wage; my wage falls only upon the Lord of the Worlds. 145 Will you be left secure in this, 146 in the midst of gardens and fountains, 147 And tilled fields and heavy-sheathed palm-trees, 148 hewing out houses in the mountains and taking pride in your skill? 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 "And follow not the command of Al-Musrifun [i.e. their chiefs, leaders who were polytheists, criminals and sinners], 151 those who spread corruption in the land instead of putting things right." 152 They replied, "Surely you are bewitched. 153 You are but a human like ourselves. Produce for us a sign, if you are of the truthful' 154 He said, "Here is a she-camel. She shall have her turn of drinking, as you have yours, each on an appointed day, 155 Do not cause her to suffer lest you become subject to the torment of the great day (of Judgment)." 156 But they hamstrung her, and then were penitent. 157 The punishment therefore seized them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 158 Your Lord, He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
