The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
A questioner asked about a Penalty to befall- 1 to those who deny the truth. No power can hinder God 2 From Allah, the Lord of all pinnacles. 3 The angels and Jibreel, ascend towards Him – the punishment will befall on a day which spans fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore, [O believer,] endure all adversity with goodly patience: 5 behold, men look upon that [reckoning] as something far away 6 but We see it to be very near. 7 The Day that the sky will be like molten brass, 8 And then the mountains shall become like unto wool dyed. 9 And friend shall not ask of friend 10 Though they will be given sight of them. The guilty man will long to be able to ransom himself from the punishment of that day at the price of his children 11 his companion wife, his brother, 12 the kinsmen who gave him shelter, 13 And all that are in the earth, so that it might save him. 14 By no means! It will be the fierce flame 15 that will strip off the scalp. 16 It calleth him who turned and fled (from truth), 17 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from use)! 18 ۞ Human beings are created greedy. 19 If evil befalls him he is perturbed; 20 And refraining, when good reaches him. 21 Save worshippers. 22 and constant in their prayers. 23 They are those who assign a certain share of their property 24 For the petitioner and the deprived - 25 And those who believe the Day of Judgement to be true. 26 And those who are fearful of the chastisement of their Lord-- 27 for none may ever feel secure from the punishment of their Lord; 28 who guard their carnal desires 29 except in regard to their spouses and those whom their right hands possess, for in regard to them they are not reproachable, 30 So those who desire more than this – it is they who are the transgressors. 31 And those who respect their trusts and covenants; 32 and those who stand by their testimony 33 And those who protect their prayers. 34 They will be honoured in the Gardens of Bliss. 35
