He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 and in awe of God 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And olive and palm trees 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 and fruits and fodder 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 his wife and his children. 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 and covered by darkness. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
