The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
When the sun is wrapped up [in darkness] 1 The stars turn dim and scatter, 2 And when the mountains are driven. 3 And when the camels big with young are abandoned, 4 The wild beasts stampede on the run, 5 And when the seas shall be filled, 6 when the souls are divided into different classes, 7 And when the female infant buried alive is asked 8 For what crime she was killed; 9 the records of deeds are made public, 10 when heaven is stripped, 11 and when the blazing fire [of hell] is kindled bright, 12 And when the garden is brought nigh, 13 Every soul shall (then) know what it has prepared. 14 No indeed; I swear by the alternating stars 15 The stars which rise and set, 16 And by the night as it departs; 17 And the morning when it brightens, 18 Verily it is a Word brought by a messenger honoured, 19 one mighty and held in honour with the Lord of the Throne; 20 Obeyed one; then trustworthy. 21 Nor is your companion distracted. 22 And indeed he saw him on the clear horizon. (Prophet Mohammed saw Angel Jibreel in his true shape – peace and blessings be upon them). 23 And this Prophet is not miserly upon the hidden. (Allah gave the knowledge of the hidden to the Holy Prophet – peace and blessings be upon him.) 24 Nor is it the word of an evil spirit accursed. 25 So where are you going? 26 That is but an advice to the entire creation! 27 (With profit) to whoever among you wills to go straight: 28 And ye will not, unless (it be) that Allah willeth, the Lord of Creation. 29
