Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming? 1 On that day the faces of some people will be humbly cast down, 2 Labouring, striving hard. 3 roasting at a scorching fire, 4 The while they are given, to drink, of a boiling hot spring, 5 No food will there be for them but a poisonous thorny plant, 6 that will neither nourish nor satisfy their hunger. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 with their striving well-pleased, 9 In a Garden on high, 10 wherein thou wilt hear no empty talk. 11 Therein shall be a spring running! 12 Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high, 13 And goblets ready placed! 14 And cushions ranged! 15 And linen spread out. 16 Then do they not look at the camels - how they are created? 17 And at the Sky, how it is raised high?- 18 how the mountains are set firm, 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 Then remind them! Thou art only a reminder; 21 You are not charged to oversee them. 22 But whoever turns back and disbelieves, 23 Allah will chastise him with the most terrible chastisement. 24 Truly, to Us is their return; 25 And Ours their reckoning. 26
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
