The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By oath of the night when it covers 1 and the day as it rises bright! 2 By (the mystery of) the creation of male and female;- 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 for those who spend for the cause of God, 6 observe piety, and believe in receiving rewards from God. 7 but for him that is a miser, and sufficed, 8 And rejects goodness, 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 It is indeed for Us to show the way, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 So, I warn you of the blazing Fire. 14 None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one. 15 Who give the lie to Truth and turn their backs. 16 But the God-fearing shall be kept away from it, 17 the Godfearing who spends his wealth to purify himself; 18 and owes no favour to anyone, which is to be repaid, 19 seeking only the Face of his Lord, the Most High, 20 and such, indeed, shall in time be well-pleased. 21
