The people of 'Ad, too, rejected the messengers. 123 Behold, their brother Hud said to them: "Will ye not fear (Allah)? 124 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 125 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 126 I seek of you no reward for this; my reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 127 Do you construct on every elevation a sign, amusing yourselves, 128 And you make strong fortresses that perhaps you may 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants! 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 And fear Him Who hath aided you with that which ye know. 132 Hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 and with gardens and springs. 134 Verily I fear for you the torment of a Mighty Day. 135 They said: "It is the same to us whether thou admonish us or be not among (our) admonishers! 136 “This is nothing but the tradition of former people.” 137 and we are not going to be chastised [for adhering to it]!" 138 So they cried him lies; then We destroyed them. Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 140
