[AND the tribe of] Thamud gave the lie to [one of God's] message-hearers 141 When their brother Salih (Saleh) said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? 142 "I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 143 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 144 I do not ask for any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 145 (Do you think) you will be left secure here 146 in the midst of gardens and fountains, 147 sown fields, and palms with slender spathes? 148 And dwellings hewed out of mountains ingeniously? 149 So fear you God, and obey you me; 150 “And do not follow those who exceed the limits.” 151 Who spread corruption in the earth, and reform not. 152 They said, “You are under a magic spell.” 153 You are nothing but a man like us. Bring us a token if you speak the truth." 154 Salih said: "This is a she-camel. There is a day set for her to drink and there is a day set for you to drink. 155 "Touch her not with harm, lest the Penalty of a Great Day seize you." 156 But they hamstrung her, then regretted; 157 The punishment therefore seized them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 158 Your Lord, He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
