He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
