Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ I swear by yonder city 1 And you are free (from sin, to punish the enemies of Islam on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah). 2 And by the begetter and that which he begat, 3 that We have created man into a life of toil and trial. 4 Thinketh he, that none hath power over him? 5 He says: "I have wasted a great deal of wealth." 6 What, does he think none has seen him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes? 8 And a tongue and a pair of lips? 9 and guided him on the two paths (of good and evil)? 10 So he did not quickly enter the steep valley. 11 What will explain to you what the ascent is? 12 The freeing of a slave! 13 or giving food on a day of hunger 14 An orphan, of kin, 15 or some needy person in distress, 16 Then will he be of those who believe, and enjoin patience, (constancy, and self-restraint), and enjoin deeds of kindness and compassion. 17 These are the People of the Right Hand. 18 But those who reject Our Signs, they are the (unhappy) Companions of the Left Hand. 19 and the Fire will close in on them. 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
