A large group from the earlier generations. 39 And a multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the later times (generations). 40 And those on the Left Hand Who will be those on the Left Hand? 41 (they shall live) amid burning winds and boiling water, 42 and the shadows of black smoke 43 neither cool nor refreshing. 44 and before that they lived at ease, 45 And they have been persisting in the heinous offence. 46 And they used to say, "What! when we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised up again?- 47 And also our forefathers? 48 Say: "Indeed, the earlier and the later generations 49 "All will surely be gathered together for appointed Meeting of a known Day. 50 Then lo! ye, the erring, the deniers, 51 Will be eating from trees of zaqqum 52 And will fill your bellies therewith; 53 "And drink Boiling Water on top of it: 54 "So you will drink (that) like thirsty camels!" 55 This is their entertainment on the day of requital. 56 We have created you: why then do you not accept the truth? 57 Behold! that which ye emit. 58 Did you create it, or are We the Creator? 59 We have decreed among you Death; We shall not be outstripped; 60 Had We so wished, nothing could have hindered Us from replacing you by others like yourselves, or transforming you into beings you know nothing about. 61 You have surely known of the first creation. Why then, will you not remember! 62 Have you considered the seeds you till? 63 Is it you that cause it to grow, or are We the causers of growth? 64 If We willed, surely We would make it chaff, so that ye would be left wondering. 65 That, “We have indeed been penalised!” 66 nay; we have been undone!” 67 And have you seen the water that you drink? 68 Is it you who caused it to descend from the cloud, or is it We Who cause it to descend? 69 We could make it brackish, if We pleased; so why do you not acknowledge thanks? 70 Have you thought about the fire you kindle? 71 Is it you who made the tree thereof to grow, or are We the Grower? 72 We, even We, appointed it a memorial and a comfort for the dwellers in the wilderness. 73 Then, exalt the Name of your Lord, the Great. 74
