The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 And pollution shun. 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then he thought; 21 frowned and scowled; 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
