Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the dawn 1 And by ten nights, 2 And the Even and the Odd, 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 There surely is an oath for thinking man. 5 Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 the like of whom no nation was ever created in the lands of the world? 8 And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?- 9 and with Pharaoh of the stakes? 10 Who terrorised the region, 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them. 13 Your Lord is certainly in wait. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me." 15 And if He tests him and restricts his livelihood – thereupon he says, “My Lord has degraded me!” 16 No indeed, but you show no kindness to the orphan, 17 And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor. 18 and you greedily devour the inheritance of the weak, 19 And love wealth with all your heart. 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank, 22 and when Hell is brought near that Day. On that Day will man understand, but of what avail will that understanding be? 23 He will say, "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life!" 24 But on that Day none will punish as He (Allah) will punish, 25 none shall bind as He binds. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 Return thou unto thy Sustainer, well-pleased [and] pleasing [Him]: 28 And enter among My [righteous] servants 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
