We created man from sounding clay, from mud moulded into shape; 26 whereas the invisible beings We had created, [long] before that, out of the fire of scorching winds. 27 And [mention, O Muhammad], when your Lord said to the angels, "I will create a human being out of clay from an altered black mud. 28 Then when I have formed him and breathed into him of My Spirit fall down unto him prostrate. 29 So the angels made obeisance, all of them together, 30 But Iblis did not; he refused to be with the prostrates. 31 Said He: "O Iblis! What is thy reason for not being among those who have prostrated themselves?" 32 He said: "It does not behove of me to prostrate myself before a human being whom You have created out of dry ringing clay wrought from black mud." 33 He said: Then get out of it, for surely you are driven away: 34 and [My] rejection shall be thy due until the Day of Judgment!" 35 He said: My Lord! Reprieve me till the day when they are raised. 36 "You are among the reprieved," (said the Lord), 37 "Till the Day of the Time appointed." 38 Said he, 'My Lord, for Thy perverting me I shall deck all fair to them in the earth, and I shall pervert them, all together, 39 Except Thy servants from among them, the devoted ones. 40 [Allah] said, "This is a path [of return] to Me [that is] straight. 41 No power shall you have over (all) My creatures except those who fall into error and follow you, 42 Surely Hell is the promised place for all of them." 43 with seven gates leading into it, each gate receiving its allotted share of sinners. 44
