The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night when it covers the day, 1 and the day as it rises bright! 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 Indeed, your efforts are diverse. 4 As for him who gives (in charity) and keeps his duty to Allah and fears Him, 5 And accepts the best, 6 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Bliss. 7 As for him who was a miser and behaved with aversion (to Allah), 8 And rejects goodness, 9 We shall facilitate for him the way to Hardship, 10 nor will his wealth profit him when he falls [into the pit]. 11 Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance 12 and to Us belongs the Hereafter as well as the present world -- 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 [the fire] which none shall have to endure but that most hapless wretch 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 But the righteous one will avoid it - 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 and owes no favour to anyone, which is to be repaid, 19 Except the seeking of the pleasure of his Lord, the Most High. 20 and the reward (of their Lord) will certainly make them happy. 21
