The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the sun and its midmorning, 1 By the moon when it followeth it, 2 by the day when it brightens the earth, 3 And [by] the night when it covers it 4 And [by] the sky and He who constructed it 5 by the earth and that (Power) which spread it out 6 Consider the human self, and how it is formed in accordance with what it is meant to be, 7 and inspired it to lewdness and godfearing! 8 Surely blissful is he who hath cleansed it, 9 and he who suppresses it will be ruined. 10 Thamood cried lies in their insolence 11 When among them the great wretch arose, 12 Then the messenger of God said to them, "This is God's she-camel. Let her drink." 13 But they cried him lies, and hamstrung her, so their Lord crushed them for their sin, and leveled them: 14 And He (Allah) feared not the consequences thereof. 15
