The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 So that they will become floating dust particles. 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 A multitude of those of old 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 like hidden pearls, 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 And spreading shade, 30 and flowing water 31 and fruits abounding 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And raised couches; 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 And made them virginal, 36 loving and of equal age. 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
