۞ Alif Lam Ra. These are the verses of the Book and (of) a Quran that makes (things) clear. 1 The disbelievers will ardently wish that if only they had been Muslims! (At the time of death / in their graves / on the Day of Resurrection.) 2 Leave them alone; let them eat and enjoy themselves the while the hope [of vain delights] beguiles them: for in time they will come to know [the truth]. 3 Never did We destroy a population that had not a term decreed and assigned beforehand. 4 no people can forestall their doom, nor can they delay it. 5 And they said, “O you upon whom the Qur’an has been sent, you are indeed insane.” 6 "Why bringest thou not angels to us if it be that thou hast the Truth?" 7 We send not the angels down except with the truth (i.e. for torment, etc.), and in that case, they (the disbelievers) would have no respite! 8 It is We who have sent down the Reminder and We will, most surely, safeguard it. 9 And certainly We sent (apostles) before you among the nations of yore. 10 But never once an apostle came to them at whom they did not scoff. 11 Thus do We make it to enter into the hearts of the guilty; 12 they believe not in it, though the wont of the ancients is already gone. 13 And if We opened upon them a door of the heaven, and they passed the day mounting thereto. 14 Even then they would say, “Our sights have been hypnotised – in fact, a magic spell has been cast upon us.” 15
