The people of Lut rejected the messengers. 160 When their fellowman Lut said to them, “Do you not fear?” 161 I am a trustworthy messenger to you: 162 so fear God and obey me. 163 I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 164 What! do you come to the males from among the creatures 165 keeping yourselves aloof from all the [lawful] spouses whom your Sustainer has created for you? Nay, but you are people who transgress all bounds of what is right!" 166 They said, "Lot, if you do not give up preaching, you will certainly be expelled (from this town)". 167 He said: "I do detest your doings." 168 My Lord, deliver me and my people from that they do.' 169 So We saved him and his family, all, 170 except for an old woman who stayed behind, 171 and then We utterly destroyed the others, 172 We rained down on them a shower (of brimstone): and evil was the shower on those who were admonished (but heeded not)! 173 Verily herein is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 174 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 175
