Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ha-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language – Allah, and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 By the Book that makes things clear; 2 We have indeed sent it down in a blessed night – indeed it is We Who warn. 3 On that night is made distinct every precise matter - 4 By command, from Our Presence. For We (ever) send (revelations), 5 A mercy from your Lord, surely He is the Hearing, the Knowing, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, if you would be sure. 7 There is no god but He. He quickeneth and causeth to die: your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 Nay, but they [who lack inner certainty] are but dying with their doubts. 9 So watch for the Day when the sky will come down with a pall of smoke, 10 Covering the people; this is a painful torment. 11 'O our Lord, remove Thou from us the chastisement; we are believers.' 12 But how will they take heed? Such are they that a Messenger came to them clearly expounding the Truth, 13 But they turned away from him, and said: "He is well-instructed, (but) possessed." 14 Lo! We withdraw the torment a little. Lo! ye return (to disbelief). 15 One day We shall seize you with a mighty onslaught: We will indeed (then) exact Retribution! 16 ۞ And We had already tried before them the people of Pharaoh, and there came to them a noble messenger, 17 Saying: "Restore to me the Servants of Allah: I am to you an messenger worthy of all trust; 18 And saying exalt not yourselves against Allah; verily I have come unto you with an authority manifest. 19 "And truly, I seek refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me (or call me a sorcerer or kill me). 20 And if you do not believe me, then leave me' 21 And he cried unto his Lord, (saying): These are guilty folk. 22 'Then set thou forth with My servants in a watch of the night; surely you will be followed. 23 And leave the sea intervening; surely they are a host that shall be drowned. 24 How much they left behind of gardens and springs 25 And cornfields and noble places! 26 And comfort wherein they were amused. 27 Even so; and We bequeathed them upon another people. 28 So the heavens and the earth did not weep for them, and they were not given respite. 29
