The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
There was certainly a time when there was no mention of the human being. 1 We created man of a sperm-drop, a mingling, and We made him hearing, seeing. 2 Indeed, We have guided him to the path, he is either grateful or ungrateful. 3 For the unbelievers, We have kept ready chains and fetters and a Blazing Fire. 4 [whereas,] behold, the truly virtuous shall drink from a cup flavoured with the calyx of sweet-smelling flowers: 5 From a spring of which the votaries of God will drink and make it flow in abundance. 6 Those who fulfil their vows and fear the Day whose evil shall be diffused far and wide, 7 And they give food out of love for Him to the poor and the orphan and the captive: 8 Saying: we feed you only for the sake of Allah; we desire not from you any recompense or thanks. 9 Surely we fear from our Lord a stern, distressful day. 10 So God will protect them from the evil of that day, and grant them happiness and joy, 11 and recompense them for their patience with a Garden, and robes of silk. 12 Reclining therein upon couches, they will find there neither (heat of) a sun nor bitter cold. 13 The shades of the garden will be closely spread over them and it will be easy for them to reach the fruits. 14 Vessels of silver and goblets of pure crystal will be passed round among them 15 crystal of silver that they have measured -- very exactly. 16 And they will be given to drink there of a Cup (of Wine) mixed with Zanjabil,- 17 A fountain there, called Salsabil. 18 ۞ Immortal youths shall surround them, waiting upon them; when you see them, you would think they are scattered pearls. 19 When thou seest, thou wilt see there bliss and high estate. 20 Upon them shall be garments of fine green silk and thick silk interwoven with gold, and they shall be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord shall make them drink a pure drink. 21 This is your reward. Your endeavour is fully acknowledged. 22
