The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 Of the mighty Announcement, 2 That over which they are in disagreement. 3 By no means! anon they shall know. 4 Again, indeed, they shall know! 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 and created you in pairs (as men and women), 8 and We have made your sleep [a symbol of] death 9 The night a covering, 10 And the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have builded over you seven strong heavens. 12 and We appointed a blazing lamp 13 And then sent down hard rain from the water bearing clouds. 14 so that We may thereby bring forth grain and vegetation, 15 And gardens of luxurious growth? 16 The Day of Judgment will certainly be the final appointment. 17 the Day that the Horn is blown, and you shall come in crowds 18 The heavens will be opened wide and turn into so many doors, 19 and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. 20 Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait 21 The destination of the rebellious. 22 there, they shall live for ages, 23 They will not taste therein cool or any drink. 24 save boiling water and wash of the wounds; 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 Behold, they were not expecting to be called to account, 27 And they belied Our revelations with strong belying. 28 but We have recorded everything in a Book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
