The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 created man from a clot of congealed blood. 2 Read and your Lord is Most Honorable, 3 Who taught (to write) with the pen 4 Taught man what he did not know. 5 Nay, but verily man is rebellious 6 For he thinks he is sufficient in himself. 7 However, (all things) will return to your Lord. 8 Have you seen him who restrains 9 a worshiper when he prays. 10 Do you think he is rightly guided, 11 Or enjoineth piety? 12 What do you think? Have you seen if he belies and turns away, 13 does he not know that Allah sees? 14 Indeed, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock, 15 By the lying, the sinful forelock. 16 So let him now call his gang! 17 We will call the angels of Hell. 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19
