The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the heaven, and the night-visitor, 1 Do you know what al-tariq is? 2 It is the shining star -- 3 That over each soul there is a guardian. 4 So let man consider from what he is created. 5 He is created from a water gushing forth. 6 that issues from between the loins and the ribs. 7 Lo! He verily is Able to return him (unto life) 8 The Day when all the secrets (deeds, prayers, fasting, etc.) will be examined (as to their truth). 9 So man will neither have any strength nor any aide. 10 By the Firmament which returns (in its round), 11 and by the earth ever bursting with verdure, 12 Indeed the Qur’an is a decisive Word. 13 And it is no joke. 14 Lo! they plot a plot (against thee, O Muhammad) 15 But I am planning a plan. 16 so bear with those who deny the truth, and let them be for a little while. 17
