The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
THE LAST HOUR draws near, and the moon is split asunder! 1 Whenever they see a miracle, they turn away from it and say, "This is just a powerful magic". 2 And they denied and followed their inclinations. But for every matter is a [time of] settlement. 3 And withal, there has come unto them many a tiding that should have restrained [their arrogance]: 4 narratives that are full of consummate wisdom. But warnings do not avail them. 5 (Muhammad), leave them alone. On the day when they will be called to a terrible punishment, 6 They will come forth,- their eyes humbled - from (their) graves, (torpid) like locusts scattered abroad, 7 They shall be hurrying forth towards the caller, and the unbelievers (who had once denied this Day), will say: “This is a woeful Day.” 8 ۞ Before them the People of Noah rejected (their messenger): they rejected Our servant, and said, "Here is one possessed!", and he was driven out. 9 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “I am overpowered, therefore avenge me.” 10 And so We caused the gates of heaven to open with water pouring down in torrents, 11 And We opened up the springs of the earth; and the waters met for a decreed end. 12 And We carried him upon a thing of planks and nails, 13 That ran (upon the waters) in Our sight, as a reward for him who was rejected. 14 We have left this as a sign: but will anyone take heed? 15 How then were My punishment and My warnings! 16 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 17 The people of `Ad rejected Our guidance. How terrible was My torment and the result (of their disregard) of My warning. 18 On an unfortunate day We sent upon them a continuous violent wind 19 Sweeping men away as though they were uprooted trunks of palm-trees. 20 Then see how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings! 21 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 22
