The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Read in the name of your Lord Who created. 1 He created man from a clot of blood. 2 Read, for your Lord is most beneficent, 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, verily, man becomes grossly overweening 6 Because he sees himself free from want. 7 Surely to your Lord is the return. 8 Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth 9 a worshiper when he prays. 10 Have you seen if he is upon guidance 11 or enjoins true piety? 12 What will happen if the prohibiting rejects the Truth and turns away from it!? 13 Does he not know that Allah sees? 14 No indeed; if he does not desist, We shall drag him by the forelock; 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades): 17 We shall call the guards of Hell. 18 No! Do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near [to Allah]. ۩ 19
