The Stars (Al-Najm)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the star when it descends, 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he misguided, 2 Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It is naught but revelation that is revealed, 4 taught him by one terrible in power, 5 Lord of power and wisdom. So he acquired poise and balance, 6 When he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he approached and came closer, 8 until he was but two bow-lengths away, or even nearer. 9 And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed. 10 His heart lies not of what he saw; 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 He certainly saw him (Gabriel) during his other ascent 13 Near the Lote-tree beyond which none may pass: 14 near which is Paradise. 15 with the lote-tree veiled in a veil of nameless splendour 16 His sight did not waver nor was it unduly bold. 17 Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? 19 And Manat (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third? 20 What, have you males, and He females! 21 That is indeed an unfair division! 22 They are but names, named by you and your fathers. Allah has not sent down any authority for them. They follow conjecture and their soul's desire, eventhough the guidance of their Lord has come to them. 23 Nay, shall man have (just) anything he hankers after? 24 So (know that) Allah only is the Owner of all – the Hereafter and this world. 25
