Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the Dawn 1 And the Ten Nights, 2 and the even and the odd, 3 and by the passing night, 4 Truly in that there is an oath for those who possess understanding. 5 Did you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) not see (thought) how your Lord dealt with 'Ad (people)? 6 the people of Iram, the city of many pillars, 7 The like of which was not built in the cities, 8 And (with) Samood, who hewed out the rocks in the valley, 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 [It was they] who transgressed all bounds of equity all over their lands, 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 (Therefore) your Lord let loose upon them a scourge of punishment; 13 for, verily, thy Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' 15 And if He tests him and restricts his livelihood – thereupon he says, “My Lord has degraded me!” 16 By no means! But ye honour not the orphan, 17 And urge not on the feeding of AlMiskin (the poor)! 18 And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether, 19 And you harbour intense love for wealth. 20 By no means! when the earth shall be ground with grinding, grinding, 21 and when your Lord appears with rows upon rows of angels, 22 and when Hell is brought near that Day. On that Day will man understand, but of what avail will that understanding be? 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 and none can bind with bonds like His. 26 Serene soul, 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
