The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night, when it envelops, 1 By the day when it appeareth in glory, 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 Indeed, your efforts are diverse. 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 And affirms goodness, 6 We will facilitate for him the easy end. 7 but for him that is a miser, and sufficed, 8 And denied the best matter, 9 So We will very soon provide him hardship. 10 and what will his wealth avail him when he goes down [to his grave]? 11 Surely it is for Us to show the Right Way, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 where none shall burn except the most wicked, 15 Who give the lie to Truth and turn their backs. 16 And avoid it shall the most pious, 17 he that spends his possessions [on others] so that he might grow in purity 18 and confers no favour on any man for recompense, 19 Except the seeking of the pleasure of his Lord, the Most High. 20 and he shall surely be satisfied. 21
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
