Said the Chiefs of the people of Pharaoh: "This is indeed a sorcerer well-versed. 109 Who wants to expel you from your land [through magic], so what do you instruct?" 110 They said: Put him off and his brother, and send collectors into the cities: 111 And bring up to thee all (our) sorcerers well-versed." 112 And so the sorcerers came to Fir'aun (Pharaoh). They said: "Indeed there will be a (good) reward for us if we are the victors." 113 He said, “Yes, and you will then become close to me.” 114 They said: 'Moses, will you throw first or shall we be the throwers' 115 Moses said: 'You throw.' So when they threw [their rods], they enchanted the eyes of the people, and struck them with awe, and produced a mighty sorcery. 116 And We revealed to Moses: 'Cast thy staff!' And lo, it forthwith swallowed up their lying invention. 117 ۞ So, the truth prevailed and what they were doing was annulled; 118 So they were defeated there and then, and were returned disgraced. 119 But the sorcerers fell down prostrate in adoration. 120 saying: 'We believe in the Lord of the universe, 121 the Sustainer of Moses and Aaron!" 122 Fir'awn said: believed ye in him ere I have given you leave? Verily this is a plot ye have plotted in the city that ye may drive forth the people thereof. So presently ye shall know. 123 I will cut off your hands and feet on the alternate sides and crucify you all." 124 They replied: 'We shall surely turn to our Lord. 125 You would punish us only because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they were shown to us. Our Lord, pour patience upon us, and cause us to die in a state of submission to You." 126
