Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 The perspicuous Book is witness 2 surely We sent it down on a blessed night, We have always sent warnings, 3 Therein (that night) is decreed every matter of ordainments. 4 As a command from Our presence - Lo! We are ever sending - 5 as a mercy from your Lord, He hears all and knows all, 6 the Lord of the heavens and the earth and of all that is between them: if you would only have sure faith. 7 There is no god but He. He quickeneth and causeth to die: your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 Yet they are lost in doubt and play. 9 So watch for the Day when the sky will come down with a pall of smoke, 10 Which would envelope mankind. That would be a grievous affliction. 11 Thereupon they will say, “O our Lord! Remove the punishment from us – we now accept faith.” 12 How can a warning benefit them? The Apostle who explained all things clearly had come to them, 13 But they turned away from him, and said: "He is well-instructed, (but) possessed." 14 Lo! We withdraw the torment a little. Lo! ye return (to disbelief). 15 on the Day when We shall seize [all sinners] with a most mighty onslaught, We shall, verily, inflict Our retribution [on you as well]! 16 ۞ AND, INDEED, [long] before their time did We try Pharaoh's people [in the same way]: for there came unto them a noble apostle, [who said:] 17 Saying: "Restore to me the Servants of Allah: I am to you an messenger worthy of all trust; 18 And saying exalt not yourselves against Allah; verily I have come unto you with an authority manifest. 19 and I take refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you should stone me. 20 And if you do not believe in me, then leave me alone. 21 And [finally] he called to his Lord that these were a criminal people. 22 So depart thou with My bondmen by night; verily ye shall be pursued. 23 And leave thou the sea divided: verily they are a host to be drowned. 24 How many gardens and water-springs they left behind! 25 And cornfields and goodly positions. 26 and good things in which they took delight. 27 Even so (it was), and We made it an inheritance for other folk; 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not for them, nor were they given a respite. 29

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
