He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 So you are after him! 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 and in awe of God 9 you ignore him. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 How We pour water in showers 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And olives and date palms, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 and his consort and his children; 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
